Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan at weekend beat visiting Akwa Starlets Fc by a lone goal in Group B tie to book her ticket to return to the elite division of the Nigerian league just one year after the team was relegated to the second tier league, the Nigerian National League (NNL).
With the victory at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, 3SC garnered a total of 50 points to leapfrog over First Bank Fc of Lagos and Akwa Starlets Fc as both lost their weekend matches by odd goals to remain in 47 points each.
Also, another old customer in the elite cadre, Gabros International of Nnewi went to Ado-Ekiti to defeat home team, Ekiti United 2-1 right at their back yard to finish in the second position in a dramatic fashion.
Both 3SC and Gabros achieved their feats through the hard way while First Bank and Akwa Starlets are left to curse their stars for the turn of events on the last day of the league.
Meanwhile, no clear winner has been determined in Group A as the two top teams in the race for automatic ticket back to the top division, Wikki Tourists Fc of Bauchi and Ranch Beers Fc of Kaduna have issues with the last weekend matches to require the NNL secretariat to determine who amongst Wikki, Ranch Bees, Niger Tornadoes Fc and Kwara United will pick the two tickets on offer.
The above scenario occurred because of the abandonment and walk over of some matches at the weekend hence the league management board will have to resolve the matter to ensure equity.
NNL Secretary, Lawrence Katken has however assured that the league organizer will do the needful to resolve the impasse to allow for a smooth end to the exciting season.
