The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak said he was not aware of the postponement, insisting the meeting will go ahead.
Eze Chkwuemeka Eze, National Publicity Secretary of the new PDP had said last week that the group had requested President Jonathan to shift the October 7 meeting because most of leaders of the splinter group, including some Governors would be performing the 2013 Hajj.
But, Political Adviser to the President said for such request to be taken serious, there ought to be formal request to President Goodluck Jonathan who will then reschedule it.
Gulak, insisted that it remains media speculations, adding that he does not work on speculations on the pages of newspapers and will therefore assume that the meeting will go ahead as fixed at the last meeting.
“That’s the report we are reading in the newspapers but the best thing is to wait for tomorrow (Monday) whether the meeting will hold or not so that if the meeting doesn’t hold, you can call me (to find out) why hasn’t it held and if we have any reason to give, we can then give you.
“But as of today, I don’t work on speculations on the papers; I have not seen their formal letter of request to postpone the meeting. I just read it in the pages of newspapers.
So, maybe by tomorrow, we will know maybe the correct position. Well, as far as we are concerned, the President is waiting. Any time any day,” the Presidential Adviser said.
It will be recalled that at the last peace talks between President Goodluck Jonathan and the aggrieved G7 Governors held at the Presidential Villa, both parties agreed to resume talks on Monday, October 7.
Present at the meeting on the side of the President were the PDP BoT chairman, Tony Anenih, Governors Godswil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers and Ibrahim Dakwambo of Gombe. On the splinter group’s side were Governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sule Lmaido of Adamawa, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano and Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara.
