Even as the federal government through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has adjusted the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirits (PMS) commonly known as petrol from N617 to N897 per litre, most filling stations in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja are now selling the product above N1,000 per litre.
Also, long queues have been building up at many petrol stations in Abuja for some weeks now have not abated as only very few fuel stations are dispensing petrol on the approved prices while others sold based on location and number of buyers available leading to increase in transportation fare.
The crisis has caused long gridlock around fuel stations as motorists queue for hours to buy petrol at the few stations dispensing products.
Prompt News reports that both the major and independent petroleum products marketers are involved in selling at different prices in their fuel stations in contravention of the official pump price of N897 per litre.
For example, some of the fuel stations owned by independent marketers like A.Y Shafa, Shema, A.A. Rano, and NIPCO filling stations visited in the metropolis sold at N940 per litre while some major marketers like Mobile, Oando, Conoil and Totalenergies displayed N897 per litre but most of them do not have the products to dispense.
Expectedly, motorists and commuters in Abuja have continued to count their losses over the persisting fuel scarcity resulting in hike in transport fare just as many residents of FCT could not go to their offices or businesses because of the high cost of transportation to and from their places of work.
