Fuel scarcity may ease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following the immediate implementation of the new federal government- approved new pump of N185 per litre.
This is even as many petrol stations in Abuja metropolis that hitherto closed their gates to customers have suddenly opened them to the public with motorists driving in to buy the products at the new price.
Prompt News can confirm that most of the major petroleum products retailers within the FCT especially those located along the ever-busy Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway-Lugbe-Airport Road axis are now dispensing the products to motorists easily.
Also, the chaotic situations of the past three months at the petrol stations in Abuja have disappeared, at least on Monday following the availability of petrol in most filling stations in Abuja.
Our reporter who drove around the FCT on Monday observed that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) filling station at Area 1, A.Y. Shafa at Gudu-Apo axis and all the petrol stations along the Airport Road, Abuja like A.A. Rano, Shema and Nimpco among others are selling fuel at different prices.
Although, NNPC has not issued any statement on the new price regime, a manager of one the petrol stations in the city who pleaded anonymity insists that federal government has authorised marketers and retailers to sell fuel at an official price of N185 per litre.
However, it is not clear if the availability of the petrol at retail outlets will continue after the Eid El Kabir holidays when Abuja residents who travelled out of the city to celebrate the Muslim festival are back in full force.
