The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS8.1 in Ilorin on Tuesday said it has returned the N28,000 recovered from a crash victim to his relative.
The Sector Public Education Officer, (SPEO), Solomon Merimekwu, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
According to him, one Usman Kabiru, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was among the crash victims along Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway on May 5.
“The amount was recovered on the victim at the crash site.
“The Sector Commander, Corps Commander (CC) Sunday Maku on Tuesday, May 8 handed over the sum of N28,000 to the relative of a driver, who died in the Road Traffic Crash (RTC).
“The accident, which occurred along Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway claimed four lives and the Command’s Zebra rescue team evacuated victims to the hospital.
“The FRSC has returned the sum of N28,000 recovered at the scene of the crash to his relative, Mr Usman Sani.
“This is to show the transparency of the FRSC not only in Kwara, but in the country at large,” he said.
The state NURTW sent a representative, Mr Abdulamid Fasat to the office, to witness the handing over of the recovered items from the crash site.
The Sector Commander condoles with the family and the Union, stating that the public should continue to have faith in the corps as regards securing and handling of RTC victims’ properties.
He also advised motorists to be careful while driving, reminding them that life has no duplicate.
