A 24-year-old French tourist died after his raft capsized on a river in north-western Nepal, a local police officer said on Friday.
Dalbir Bika, a police officer in Kalikot district in the country’s Karnali region, said the man along with his two compatriots was halfway through a week-long rafting trip on the Karnali River when the accident happened.
“The three left Gamgadi [in Mugu district] and descended the river.
“The man lost his paddle and was rowing the raft with his hands.
“The river has canyons and waterfalls. Tourists are thrilled by it, but there are sections that are difficult,’’ Bika told newsmen.
He added that the man’s belongings were swept away in the river.
Report says Nepal offers some of the world’s best white-water rafting while the country’s longest Karnali River and other waterways attract adventure seekers from all over the world.
