Africa’s most likely surviving team in the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup final, Super Falcons Sunday afternoon at Stade Edmond Blanchet in Rennes concluded their training regime as the players emerged from the two hours session looking confident that they can grind out a win tomorrow against host nation, France.
All the players took part in the training session which centered on game strategy and tactics to be deployed by the Super Falcons against their more illustrious French Ladies who hit Coach Thomas Dennerby-tutored team 8-0 in a better forgotten friendly tie last year in La Mans.
Super Falcons team chemistry has since changed a lot with the coach bringing in younger and enterprising players while the team had also won the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) held in Ghana last December.
Nigeria with three points from last Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over South Korea have a big chance of reaching the knockout rounds of the competition for the first time in 20 years if they hold their ground against the Les Bleuesat the 28,000 –capacity Roazhon Park., Rennes tomorrow.
A win or draw against the Les Bleues on Monday evening (8pm Nigeria time) will automatically send the Super Falcons to the Round of 16, though a narrow loss might also see them sneak in depending on results in other groups, as well as the result between Group A mates Norway and Korea Republic – which is starting at the same time in Reims.
