There are strong indications that a former Minister of Justice, Adetokunbo Kayode and his associates may soon quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This emerged at a lecture he delivered in Akure during the annual conference of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Ondo state chapter on Monday.
The former minister who admonished aspirants for elected office on the importance of women disclosed that he will not be standing for Ondo governorship in 2016 even as he noted that he is already in the process of changing his political platform.
According to him, “I want the fear and respect for women political and electoral power to be the beginning of wisdom in 2016. That is for those who wish to contest the next governorship election in Ondo state. I will continue to stand, not for any political office, I don’t have the stomach for that, not any more”.
“But even as I change my political platform, a move which is already in process, I will continue to concentrate on my law practice and business and do projects that will help the public, women and children”, the former Defence minister who was represented at the event said.
“As a former grass root politician, I know the role and importance of women in politics; no politician can get elected or succeed without the support of women. For the women of Ondo state and Nigeria, I will continue to support the proper articulation of the power and right of women politician who wishes to win any election”, he said.
The senior lawyer however did not give details of which political party he is going to join or when he is going to make his declaration public.
Prince Kayode’s associate, Prof Soji Adesugba however confirmed the development, noting that ” the process is on for the change of party platforms.
“But I can tell you that it is the entire Tokunbo Kayode Organisation that is quitting the PDP. Full details will be announced later’, he noted in a chat with newsmen
