The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has extended its support to the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to meet the housing needs of members and access other services of the bank.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Mr Shehu Osidi, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a courtesy call by members of ANAN led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kayode Fasua.
Osidi said that FMBN was established to provide affordable mortgages to drive home ownership among Nigerian workers particularly low and medium income earners.
According to him, in doing so, FMBN’s overall focus is to deepen the housing finance and mortgage sector to improve its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product.
He said this was to enhance homeownership among Nigerians for wealth creation, economic prosperity and drastically reduce the housing deficit.
“In terms of partnership, FMBN has an array of products rolled out over the years that ANAN members can take advantage of.
“We have the individual construction loan where an individual with C of O or in some case an R of O can access a facility.
“They will design the kind of house you want, you cost the house by yourself and then we can actually give you a loan to build a house by yourself.
“What we normally do is milestone disbursement according to the work plan.
“Then we have the cooperative housing development loan, where members can come together. Then there is the regular housing fund loan for contributors to own houses, amongst others.
“So I would encourage members to take advantage of these products. So as an institution, the bank will be willing and able to assist ANAN members to meet their needs for ownership,’’ Osidi said.
He said that ANAN as a body deserved special commendation for its critical contributions and interventions in the Nigeria’s economic landscape particularly in deepening knowledge base and expanding skill sets in financial services.
“I personally and the FMBN as an institution are proud to be associated with the leadership and members of a foremost professional body like ANAN.
“We commend your doggedness and commitment over the years in promoting efficiency and professionalism in accounting profession,’’ he said
Fasua said the aim of the visit was to extend a hand of fellowship and to identify with the managing director as a member of ANAN and to seek ways to leverage FMBN’s services.
The ANAN chief executive said that the association was established in 1979 and chartered in 1993 with over 56,000 members across the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada and Cote d’Ivoire.
He said ANAN had a Nigerian College of Accountancy which had existed for the past 30 years, admitting 5000 students yearly for further studies after tertiary institution.

He said in 2020, 2021 ANAN University was established, making the only professional body in Nigeria and probably the world to have a university and a residential college at the same time.
Fasua called on the managing director to support ANAN members to further their studies as well as engage in ANAN activities as well as access housing loans, amongst others.
“We also require your support to see how our staff can have access to the services of FMBN, mortgage loans for houses, amongst others,’’ he said. (NAN)
