By Gracious Akujobi Flying Eagles on Monday defeated four times League champions, Kano Pillars 2-1 in one of the matches decided at the ongoing expanded Super 4 tournament taking place at Abuja National Stadium.
The encounter which began with Coach Manu-Garba tutored U-20 team scoring their first goal through striker Suleiman Abdullahi before team Captain Mohammed Musa scored an own goal to gift Pillars a quick equalizer.
Taiwo Awoniyi got a second goal for Flying Eagles before Half Time.
In search of more goals, Nigeria U-20 side earned a penalty at the commencement of second half but Chidera Eze stepped up to shoot but Pillars goalkeeper caught the ball to deny Manu Boys another goal.
Speaking in the post match briefing Manu insisted that his team are still work in progress even as he admitted that Kano-based side gave his squad tough time.
“We played against three times league champion in a roll, an experience, compact side, a side that move the ball on the ground. I believe the game was good test match for both sides and I hope Pillars really learnt a lot from our boys as we also learnt some things from them too”
“The joy of the game apart from victory is that my team entertained the crowd. For me is a sweet victory to beat FA cup and league champion in a roll, I give kudos to the boys for the well job done” Manu stated.
Also speaking, Technical Adviser of Kano Pillars Okey Emordi said “Winning every game is my focus. Though I am not so keen to win this tournament because it is not a do or die affair but we are going to inculcate many things into the players so that they will know that this tournament is a serious one” he stated.
In other matches of Federation Cup champions Enyimba FC piped Warri Wolves 1-0, while Loosing finalist at the last Fed. Cup Dolphins fell to a lone goal to the U-23 team.
