To protect families displaced by recent floods from waterborne diseases, Kogi State Governor Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has initiated the drilling of boreholes at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
This initiative aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by displaced individuals in accessing clean water.
During a press briefing on Thursday, State Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo announced that Governor Ododo instructed the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to commence drilling operations immediately to ensure a steady supply of potable water for the camps.
The governor issued this directive during a visit to several IDP camps, where he also emphasized the need for additional relief materials.
To facilitate the timely delivery of these supplies, the state government has engaged Komforte Koncept as a service provider responsible for meeting the basic needs of the displaced individuals.
The governor’s swift action in drilling boreholes is a response to the growing challenges and increased population in the aftermath of the flooding. RUWASSA has been given a 48-hour deadline to complete the drilling and install the necessary equipment to ensure residents have access to clean water during their stay in the camps.
Governor Ododo expressed his confidence in the service provider tasked with delivering essential relief items, including food, medical supplies, and clothing, to the IDP camps. He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all citizens, ensuring that no one is left behind in these trying times.
The relief materials distributed to the IDP camps aim to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the devastating floods, providing crucial support as the government works toward their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
