First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has stated that it is important for the three tiers of government to work together effectively in order to bring the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

She noted that the Village Health Workers scheme is a demonstration of the firm commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan, to give Nigerians access to better medical care at the grassroots and also, create jobs for the rural populace.
She said that the Scheme would facilitate improved use of medical facilities in the local communities and urged the Village Health Workers to be good MDGs ambassadors in the rural communities they would be working in.
In their goodwill messages at the event, the Executive Governors of Kebbi State, Saidu Usman Dakingari; Kogi State, Idris Wada and Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, lauded the MDG initiative and praised the First Lady for championing improved healthcare in grassroots communities.

He concluded his remark by requesting his own local government area, which he described as, “remote and hard to reach,” to be included in the Scheme.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, Dr. Precious Gbeneol, gave the background of the project which she stated, is in consonance with internationally acceptable concept, aimed at creating demand for health services.
