The Kwara State Fire Service said on Tuesday that nine shops were affected in the midnight fire which happened at Bode Saadu Market on Jebba road in Ilorin.
Mr Hakeem Hassan, the Head, Media and Publicity of the Service, said this in a statement in Ilorin.
According to Hassan, if not for the response of the Brigade in eliminating the fire on time, the inferno will have been a great disaster in the community.
”The fire destroyed shops and many other valuable property at Bode Saadu Market.
”The fire outbreak started at about 01:54hrs of today (Tuesday), when one Mr Musbaudeen summoned the State Fire Service to the incident through a telephone call.
”If not because of the quick response of the Brigade in eliminating the fire on time, the inferno would have been a great disaster in the community,’’ he said.
Hassan confirmed that out of 50 shops in the market, only nine were affected due to the approach adopted by the fire officers present at the scene.
He added that the director of the fire service, Mr Olumuyiwa Falade, urged the residents of Bode Saadu to always play safe at all times. (NAN)
