The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa state, said an early morning fire on Monday damaged some stalls and property worth millions of Naira, at Birniwa motor park, in Birniwa Local Government area of the state.
The NSCDC spokeman, CSC Adamu Shehu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the fire started at about 5:20 a.m., at frontage of the park and that six stalls were affected.
Adamu said no human casualties were recorded during the incident and that the fire was suspected to be triggered by an electrical surge.
“Today, at about 05:20hrs, at front building of Birniwa motor park, there was fire outbreak that damaged six market stalls belonging to six traders that included tea, grains, meat, yams and food sellers.
“The fire was suspected to be caused by electrical spark and it destroyed property worth millions of Naira,” Shehu said.
He explained that it took the combined efforts of the NSCDC personnel operating in the area and members of the community to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas.
The spokesperson added, however, that investigation would be carried out to ascertain the real cause of the outbreak. (NAN)
