President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that a database of Nigerians in diaspora should be set up just as Nigeria Diaspora Investment Trust Fund will come on stream in 2020.
This much was disclosed today in Abuja by Chairman/Chief Operating Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri- Erewa while briefing State House Correspondents after visiting President Buhari at Presidential Villa Abuja.
According to her, “President Buhari has instructed that the welfare of Nigerians anywhere in the world should be of paramount importance hence the Commission has decided to set up a database of Nigerians in diaspora.
” We shall establish the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Trust Fund next year while we are working with SMEDAN thatNigerians in diaspora are taken into consideration when the need arises”, Dabiri- Erewa stated.
She also revealed that the the Commission is working with the National Assembly to pass the bill for Diaspora Voting while the Commission has been allocated the sum of N300 billion in the 2020 fiscal year.
The former television journalist also disclosed that a sum of $25 million was recorded as a Diaspora remittances for the 2019.
