The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) says the Federal Government has awarded N184 million contract for the rehabilitation of roads at the institution.
According to the Unilorin Bulletin issued on Monday, arrangements have been concluded for the total rehabilitation of the road network on the campuses.
This followed the award of a contract to that effect by the Federal Ministry of Works, it stated.
The Bulletin noted that the award of the contract is contained in a letter addressed to the university’s Director of Works, Mr Mudathir Abisoye, which was signed by the Federal Controller of Works, Mr Atitebi Wasiu.
“The letter, which is dated Jan. 11, 2022, and entitled ‘Award of Contract for the Rehabilitation of Internal Roads at the University of Ilorin’, explained that the contract was awarded to Messrs Charnel Engineering Company Limited,” it said.
The publication also disclosed that the project is expected to be completed on or before June 23.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, commended the Federal Ministry of Works for the gesture, saying that the road rehabilitation project would further boost the environmental aesthetics of the university campus.
“Abdulkareem said that when completed, the rehabilitated road networks would also enhance smooth movement of staff and students as well as visitors on the campus,” said the bulletin.
Abisoye also appreciated the federal government for its prompt response to the request of the university and prayed for a sustainable good rapport.
The director however urged the contractor to do a good job that must meet Unilorin’s high standards.
He disclosed that the contractor had assured him that work would commence on the project soonest.
“We urge the contractor to keep to the contract terms and complete the work on schedule,” he said. (NAN)
