The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has promised to rehabilitate deplorable roads, especially the failed portions of Ipele-Idoani, Isua Akoko and Elegbeka-Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
This was contained in a letter written to the Ondo State House of Assembly by Mr Olubunmi Adeyemi, an official of FERMA, on Tuesday in Akure.
The agency gave assurance that necessary steps would be taken to find a lasting solution to the roads sequel to a letter written to FERMA by the assembly on the need to attend to the deplorable roads.
The agency, which sympathised with motorists plying the roads, said that palliative works were recently carried out by the agency on some critical points between Molege- Elegbeka-Ifon Road.
FERMA described the poor condition of the road as a serious threat to lives of individuals and pleaded with the road users to exercise patience as something urgent would be done.
“We really sympathise with the road users with the deplorable condition of these roads.
“These threats were caused primarily due to the absence of proper drainage system at the locations and the heavy downpour in recent times led to the quick deterioration of the submerged sections of these roads,” he said.
The agency explained that it was awaiting approval and release of funds from the Federal Government, saying that available funds would give permanent repairs to the ‘blacksports’.
In his response to the letter, the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, expressed displeasure over the terrible condition of the roads, saying that the House decided to write FERMA on the need to carry out its primary duties of maintaining federal roads in the state.
Oladiji expressed concern that the roads had been abandoned and had gone totally out of control.
He asked FERMA to quickly intervene in the fixing of the roads as soon as possible, saying that numerous incidents of kidnapping take place on the road daily.( NAN)
