A microfinance bank employee, Blessing Odukwe, who allegedly stole N300,000 belonging to her employer, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Odukwe, 40, is facing a charge of stealing to which she pleaded not guilty.
The accused committed the offence sometime in February this year at Berger Suya Market, Olodi-Apapa, Police Prosecutor Augustine Ejembi told the court.
Ejembi said the accused, a marketer with Davi-Dani Microfinance Bank, had at various times failed to remit funds collected from customers.
“There were discrepancies in the log book of the accused, an audit conducted had shown that the accused did not remit the actual funds she realised.
“A total of N300,000 has been reported missing,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section provides seven years imprisonment for offenders.
Ruling on the accused’s bail application, Magistrate Olaitan Ajayi admitted her to a bail of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until July 24 for mention.
