President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval for Nigeria’s Aviation Security to carry arms to ensure safety and security of the nation’s airports.
The news was dropped Wednesday evening by the Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika while briefing State House Correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over today by President Buhari.
According to Sirika who came to the briefing room with Information, Lai Mohammed; Ministers of State for Transportation and Petroleum, Gbemisola Saraki and Timipriye Silva, disclosed that his ministry presented two memoranda to FEC which were also approved.
“Two memo were presented and approved today by the council. Mr. President in conformity with the Act establishing Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had approved that aviation security carry arms for improved security”,
“Approval was given for the construction of indoor shooting range for Aviation Security at the cost of N2.4 billion”, Sirika revealed.
He also said that the contract has been awarded to a Nigerian firm Messers Donteck and another company called Action Target of USA, adding that the construction of the indoor shooting range will be completed in two months.
Also speaking to State House Correspondents, minister of state for Transportation, Saraki said council approved N581 contract for the purchase of bouey for the River Niger Inland Water Ways from Lokoja to Onitsha.
Petroleum minister of state, Silva revealed that FEC has approved the establishment of two Oil and Gas Parks in Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.
