Mr Christian Ohaa, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has said that the territory is mobilising 470 athletes to compete at the 19th Sports Festival scheduled for Abuja.
Ohaa stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the arrangement by the FCT to host visiting states in terms of security, transportation and facilities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 19th Sports Festival is billed to hold in Abuja between Dec. 6 to 16, where athletes will compete in over 37 sports.
He said that arrangements were in top gear to ensure adequate security, transportation and accommodation for the athletes and officials.
According to him, FCT athletes will compete in 27 events as they are already grouped in various camps within the territory to train before the events.
“Nigeria will harness optimally and our youth will surely perform better, with a lot of laurels to be won.
“8,860 athletes will be at Abuja for the Dec. Meet where 1, 500 combined security officials will be out to ensure security for both our guests and the residents.
“Plans have been mapped out to ease transportation problems that may likely come up with the help of traffic lights, police, traffic wardens and other agencies will also be out to support in traffic management,’’ he said.
The permanent secretary gave assurance of a hitch-free event and called on all residents to look forward to the success of the event.
He appealed to them to be security conscious by notifying security agents or the FCT Call Centre of any suspicious movements.
