The FCT Minister, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has assured delegates to the National Conference and all those residing or visiting the Federal Capital Territory of safety.
The Minister said that perfect arrangements have been put in place including litter control in and around the 250 square kilometers of the Federal Capital City, considering the influx of people expected into Abuja during this period.
Mohammed gave this assurance while answering questions from journalists after officially flagging off the massive operation clean up Abuja, being enforced by all security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory.
The venue of the flag-off is the notorious Area I, Garki I District roundabout by Durumi District (popularly known as Dagba) where all sort of suspected miscreants are haboured in the Federal Capital City.
The Minister reiterated that it would not be business as usual as the enforcement of commercial motorcycles/okada; street hawkers; beggars; commercial sex workers as well as restriction of Tricycle (Keke Napep) to designated areas in the metropolis is total.
On illegal structures, Mohammed emphasized that the Task Force also has the mandate of removing all shanties; all illegal/unplanned developments in Abuja and all illegal car marts as well as car wash from unauthorized locations.
The Minister remarked that the operation is multidimensional in order to make Abuja a better place, as basic code of conduct must be respected.
He enjoined all residents to cooperate with the security agents, as the FCT Administration has provided adequate alternative means of transportation like large capacity buses and taxis.
Mohammed warned that the FCT Administration would not allow lawlessness to reign in the Federal Capital City, as Abuja remains the window in which the World sees Nigeria and Africa.
According to him, he and the FCT Permanent Secretary, John Chukwu decided to come to the field to spur the security agents and all those involved in the operation to maximum productivity.
Mohammed urged the Task Team to arrest and prosecute any defaulter as the FCT Administration has provided the entire needed alternative, which are robust in consonance with all well-known international norms.
The FCT Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu who is the chairman of the Task Force promised to rid the city of all social menace.
He appreciated the support and cooperation being extended to the security agencies to do their job as unprecedented; stressing that this collaboration would go along way in sanitizing the city.
On the National Confab, Mbu said, “our men have been there, the Hon. Minister FCT, Hon. Minister of State as well as the FCT Permanent Secretary have also been there to ensure that the place is safe and secure.
