ABUJA – The Board of the FCT Football Association has approved the commencement of an inter Area Councils Women Football League in Abuja.
The competition which would be for all Women clubs in the six Area Councils of the Capital City, is aimed at speedily developing the game at the grassroots.
According to the program of events approved at the FA first Board meeting of the year 2017, registration for the League would begin on 15 February, while commencement date has been fixed for 6 March. The Board however directed the FA Organizing Committee to come up immediately with the format of competition.
Also approved for the year is the Inter Area Councils girls’ Primary Schools Football Competition which its pilot stage was held last year. The Board also approved that the 2017 edition of the FCT Principals Cup Football Competition must be for both boys and girls in all the senior secondary schools in FCT.
They agreed for the commencement of a Junior Football League for both the U-13 and U-15 boys. This programme will be held during the holiday periods. The Board however, appealed to corporate bodies to embrace its programmes, to ensure that grassroots football is further given a lift in FCT and Nigeria in general.
