About 270 players from the 20 States of Nigeria including Abuja are participating in the Maiden edition of the FCT National Under 15 and 19 Open Badminton Championship holding at the Mabilla Barrack in Abuja between 24th to 28th of November.
This would be the first time FCT is holding the national open event that is aimed at grooming the youth and exposing their talents.
Chairman of the FCT badminton Association, Mr, Gabriel Gbayan stated that the competition would serve as a channel for discovering new talents for the national team while also calling for more sponsorship to promote the game of badminton in Nigeria.
He stressed the need for well to do Nigerians to assist in sponsorship of the game in other to encourage youths to the game and promote badminton at the grass root.
He added that “Badminton is a game that should be encourage because it helps the youth leave the streets and at the end of the day, they become professionals in the field.
