Chairman of the FCT Badminton Association, Mr. Godfrey Gbanya has assured Nigerians of an Olympic ticket through Nigeria’s top ranked players if the country sports administrators continue to support the game at the grassroots.
Speaking at the on-going National Under 15 and 19 championship at the Mabilla Barracks in Abuja, the FCT badminton Chairman expressed joy at the scintillating display churn out by each players and promised that FCT would sustain the championship as yearly event.
Kwara State seems to be at the top of the table at the championship with FCT and Taraba breathing down their neck, while Lagos and Niger are close to the ranking.
Mr., Gbanya also spoke on the reason why the game format was enlarged to accommodate Under 21 players, According to him, some of the players are a bit above the age limit and since the competition has zero tolerance for age cheating then the need to extend the hands of friendship which the competition stand for to other players above the rank without sending the players home.
The championship ends this weekend with lot prizes to be won in each event designed by the organizers.
