A new language was added to the political lexicon of the nation during the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State soundly won by Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that is stomach infrastructure.
The term emphasises the importance of basic necessities of life such as food, shelter, clothing, sound health among others to the survival of man on earth.
The absence of those things make people live in abject poverty.
Fayose, a promise keeper, had since inauguration created an office on stomach infrastructure and put a competent hand to man it.
The importance of eradicating poverty has been acknowledged worldwide to the point that the United Nations declared October 17 of every year as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
To Fayose, who during his first term in office, embarked on the massive provision of physical infrastructure and is even ready to do more, understands the importance of matching physical well-being of the people with adequate facilities for a better life.
Fayose’s approach is not doling out food handouts to people on the streets, but to provide employment opportunities, sound health facilities (that are affordable), encourage agriculture (that will lead to abundant food), ensure provision of houses for all categories of income earners and then physical facilities such as roads would be meaningful to them.
Ekiti people are not gullible, they know who they voted for and why, so, they will not be disappointed in the term of the government meeting their expectations.
