As outrage trails the controversial advertorial placed by Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, ‘wishing’ the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari dead, the ruling PDP has dissociated the party said advertisement.
Reacting on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, pointedly said Fayose was not speaking for the party as it was his personal view.
He said current age does not determine how long a person will live, adding that the party beleves in the sanctity of life.
Fani-Kayode said, “Fayose expressed a personal opinion, which he is entitled to.
“Governor Ayo Fayose is a distinguished leader of our party. A democratically elected Governor and someone we have great respect and affection for and he released this advert in his own name.
“That represents his (Fayose’s) own personal opinion which he is entitled to.
“What I can tell you on our part, as the Presidential campaign organisation. Is that it does not represent the opinion of the presidential campaign organisation or indeed the president. It represents his personal opinion, which he is entitled to.
“He is somebody we have immense respect for him and he is a leading member of our party.
“For anybody to say that this is the position of the presidential campaign organisation or President Goodluck Jonathan, that will be most unfair.”
“We will never say that because we believe in the sanctity of life. We do not wish him (Buhari) ill, we do not wish him dead, we wish him long life.
“We must continue to show immense respect for General Buhari as and a person and his health.
“We believe it is important to always raise question about facts, you know what these questions are and we will continue t raise them.
“Fayose never said that he was speaking on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan but for himself and he said that he issued it in his name.”
The opposition APC and well meaning Nigerians have condemned the advertorial, which suggests that Buhari may die in office if elected.
