Ekiti state Chief Judge Ayodeji Daramola Thursday administered oath of office on the new Governor of the State, Ayodele Fayose, at a very colourful ceremony in Ado-Ekiti.
In his address, Fayose said he was taking over the affairs of the state with a whopping N57 billion debts left behind by the immediate past governor, Kayode Fayemi.
He however assured the people that he would not disappoint them but would strive to embark on developmental programmes in spite of the huge debts.
The governor also dropped the hint that the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) may be dissolved.
However, Fayose said he would await the outcome of the ongoing court case before taking decisive action.
While assuring the civil servants that he would run a people-oriented administration, Fayose said all appointments of Permanent Secretaries made by the Fayemi administration at the eleventh hour remain voided.
Meanwhile, at the inauguration, six lawmakers elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
With the defection, the number of PDP lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly is now seven while the APC has 21.
Present at the ceremony were PDP chieftains including the national chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and some governors elected under the party’s platform.
