Nile University, Abuja, defeated the host, University of Lagos (UNILAG),by 57-54 in in the basketball event of the All African University Games(FASU)in Lagos.
The match was played on Friday at the UNILAG Sports Hall.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Nile University had previously defeated UNILAG at the last Nigeria University Games (NUGA), also hosted by UNILAG.
The semi-final men’s basketball encounter between the two rivals saw Nile University have dominance over UNILAG, securing a place in the final of the games.
Team Nile University started off with a good rebound and three-pointers to win the first-quarter.
Unilag, however, came back strongly at the second-quarter and took the lead.
Team Nile University won the last quarter and booked a place in the final.
David Oromufo, a Nile University player told NAN that it was a tough game.
“I am ecstatic and elated, first of all, I want to give gratitude to God ,because if not for him, we would not have been here ,His grace has kept us.
“We are disciplined both on the court and off the court.
“We are focused and bonded as a team, more importantly, we listen to instructions of our coaches.
“It was a team effort, everyone came out and gave their best, Unilag team is a very strong team with experience players, but we took our chances,” he said.
Oromufo commended Team UNILAG ,describing the team as group of talented players.
NAN reports that Team Nile University will play Lagos State University LASU Bombers in the final. (NAN).
