A 42-year-old farmer, Danladi Gambo, was arraigned on Thursday in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged N2.3m land fraud.
Gambo, a resident of Kawo, Kaduna, was facing a charge of fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in Oct. 2023 in Kaduna.
According to Leo, the defendant sold a plot of land situated at Rigasa in Kaduna to the complainant, Yusuf Sani, at the sum of N2.3 million.
“The defendant collected the money and gave the complainant a fake document for the land,’’ he said.
The prosecutor stated that when the complainant went to start building on the said land, he was stopped by the real owner.
Leo added that all efforts made by the complainant to get his money back proved abortive.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, which stipulate five years jail term.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
