Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has enjoined the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to urgently allay his fears on the Muslim/Muslim ticket being speculated ahead of 2015 presidential election.
The former Presidential aide, who was reacting to report on his readiness to dump the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also urged the media to stop speculating and await decision on his next political move.
Fani-Kayode in a statement on Wednesday, said his meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday should not be seen as his readiness to dump his party, APC.
The former minister justified his visit to Aso Rock, citing the recent meeting the APC governors also had with President Jonathan at the State House.
His statement reads, “I was at the Villa yesterday (April 8th, 2014) and what transpired there has been the subject of much online speculation. What I said to the media whilst there was very clear and I chose my words carefully. Let those that are interested read those words in today’s newspapers rather than speculate. Other than that I will say no more on this matter until I am ready to do so.
“A few days ago all the APC governors from the south west were in the State House where they held a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan. What they discussed has not been made public until now. Does that make them PDP governors? The Presidency belongs to every Nigerian irrespective of religious and political persuasions.
“Again General Buhari was recently honoured by the same President Jonathan during the centenary celebration which the APC did not support. Does that mean he has joined the PDP?
“Again the ongoing Federal Government confab has some APC chieftains participating in it despite the fact that the “This is not about leaving parties but about principle. Let us hope that the leadership of the APC sees fit to clarify this matter at the soonest and assure us all that they will do no such thing. Their silence on the matter and their refusal to rule it out is simply fuelling more and speculation and dissent from within”.
He also recalled Biodun Ishola Ladepo’s words that”If I were Femi Fani-Kayode and my party planned to field a Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket, especially in the age of Boko Haram, I would bolt faster than Hussein Bolt. I am glad that someone is seeing things clearly.”
