A security expert, Retired Brig.-Gen. Saidafa Nandul, has tasked security agencies and government at all levels on the need to integrate digital technology in the security of lives and property in the country.
Nandul gave this charge on Tuesday in Abuja at a security seminar presentation on ‘PS Diffusion Security System’ organised by Gwan Ventures.
The seminar was aimed at sensitising Nigerians to understand the need to deploy digital technology in the fight against crime.
He said that Gwan Ventures was collaborating with PS Diffusion Security System to provide Nigeria with new security technologies needed to combat crime.
According to him, there is the need for governments and security agencies as well as corporate bodies to continue the needed research by integrating new technologies for effective monitoring and tracking of crimes.
“Today, our country is inundated with a lot of security challenges and no country in the world can record meaningful development in the face of increasing crime and crisis.
“Therefore, the integration of new technologies can effectively contribute to the security and safety needs of the public and civil assets in Nigeria.
“The government has employed various counter measures to stop the killing of people and ensure adequate protection of property and this has cost the country a lot of money.
“In spite of these efforts, the surest way to combat the menace is via digital technology.
The Director of Engineering, Gwan Ventures, Mr Mike Joseph, said that the PS Diffusion Security System through its basic principle of remote monitoring can serve the purpose of crime detection, verification and intervention.
According to Joseph, the system works with cameras and sensors that cover up to 10 kilometres range.
He added that it could be used to monitor other incidences apart from crime.
“This video, combined with remote monitoring, could be deployed in hostage taking, monitor incidences as floods, accidents and can be used for agricultural purposes,’’ Joseph noted.
He added that if the technology could be used to check crime, which would bring about a peaceful society, it would, therefore, accelerate rapid economic growth in the country.
