A former Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr Harold Demuren, is to function as the Lead Speaker in the forthcoming Conference and Awards of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC).
Mr Olusegun Koiki, Chairman of LAAC, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.
Koiki said no fewer than 250 participants from airlines, government agencies, aviation services providers and other stakeholders are expected at the conference scheduled for July 17 in Lagos.
Koiki said the former NCAA director-general was excited to speak at the programme due to LAAC’s overwhelming contributions to the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria through its lectures and seminars.
The chairman said Demuren would speak on the conference theme: “Boosting Aviation Investment Through Policy”.
He said Demuren would also share his wealth of experience, after years of serving in both public and private sectors of the industry.
Koiki said: “Demuren is an aeronautical engineer with over four decades of experience in the aviation industry.
“As director-general of NCAA, he was significantly instrumental to reforms in the Nigerian aviation sector, attaining United States (US) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Category One Certification for airports.
“Demuren also introduced safety reforms to enhance professionalism and transparency in both operations and aviation business in the country.
“He holds a Master of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Kiev Institute of Aeronautical Engineers in the former Soviet Union.
“He also holds a Doctor of Science Degree in Gas Turbines, specialising in aircraft jet engines from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),” Koiki said.
According to him, other Chief Executive Officers in the aviation agencies will also be part of the panel of discussants where issues relating to the industry will be discussed.
