The European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Wednesday said it was evaluating whether to recommend Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 to 11.
The EU regulator is yet to recommend any coronavirus vaccine for children under 12.
The Moderna vaccine has so far been approved in the European Union for those aged 12 and above.
Meanwhile, the EMA’s decision on whether to expand the jab to younger children is expected within the next two months.
The Amsterdam based EMA already has a review process under way for Pfizer/BioNTech’s application to expand its shot to under 12s.
The agency is expected to make a decision by the end of 2021.
The EMA assesses the efficacy and safety of the vaccines.
However, it is up to national authorities in EU states whether to act on the agency’s recommendation.
