The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), a technical assistance programme co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power is supporting the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to develop standards for Solar PV panels, Batteries, Charge Controllers, Inverters, and Energy Meters in Nigeria.
The project to be launched on Tuesday is aimed at developing a more regulated and standardised market that encourages further investments into RE/EE sector.
Following extensive consultations with relevant public-private entities, 37 standards were selected and approved in November 2020.
At this stage, SON is set to launch the standards for PV panels, Charge controllers, Batteries, Inverters, and meters; and make them available for stakeholders to access where required.
