Icelandic senior women’s football team were in devastating mood yesterday as they whitewashed opponents Latvia 9-0 in the first match of the resumed European Women’s Championship England 2022 qualifiers.
Also, Sweden, Bronze medallist in the last FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France in 2019 continued where they stopped by hammering hapless Hungary 8-0 at home.
It was also a night of long knives as Denmark went to Bosnia and Herzegovina to beat their opponents 4-0 away from home.
But it was Iceland that made the most impressionable mark by scoring 9 goals against Latvia without conceding any goal with Iceland’s striker, Brynjarsdottir scoring a hat-trick.
Another attacker, Jonsdottir scored a brace in the one-sided match which saw her teammates, Jensen, Johannsdottir and
Vilhjalmsdottir scoring one goal apiece while Latvia’s player, Miksone scoring an own goal to complete the massacre.
Sweden’s goalscorer are Anvegard, 3 goals;
Hurtig, 2 goals and
Eriksson, Iestedt and Sembrant with a goal each.
In the match between Bosnia and Herzegovina versus Denmark, the Danes goalscorers are Denmark scorers:
Nadim, Troelsgaard,
Sevecke and
Christiansen with one goal apiece.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 11 matches will be played across Europe today.
