From Harry Awurumibe in Ado-Ekiti
Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti state on Thursday witnessed a heavy traffic as candidates in Saturday’s governorship election were seen making last minutes push to win voters’ minds hours before the end of political campaigns by midnight.
Prompt News reports that many political parties held their final road shows around Ado-Ekiti metropolis with others holding rallies in the rural areas of the state to drum up support for their candidates.
Very visible on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti are the campaign trains of former governor of the state Engineer Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) whose party held a mega rally at The Pavilion in the city center.
The SDP event caused traffic gridlock along the ever-busy new Iyin Road known as Bank Road with human and vehicular movements restricted by the crowd following the politicians.
Oni himself was sighted atop an open roof SUV acknowledging cheers from Ado residents by waving back to the people on both sides of the street.
Also, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji were very active in Ado-Ekiti and its environs as they sang and danced on the streets with their campaign posters.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Bisi Kolawole and his supporters were not noticed in the city centre, although his group like political parties may have relocated to the hinterland where they hope to capture more votes than in city.
Meanwhile, going by the rules of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all
political campaigns end in Ekiti by midnight of Thursday, June 16 ahead of the Saturday, June 18 Ekiti Gubernatorial Election.
