The Ekiti Government says more support will be extended to the activities of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the state to assist unemployed graduates to become self-reliant.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Bisi Egbeyemi, made this known on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, at an activity organised by the state SDGs, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to mark the 2021 International Youth Day (IYD).
Egbeyemi said the state government had done much to provide employment for unemployed graduates through its various recruitment exercises.
According to him, but due to economic constraints, all youths could not be engaged, hence the need to look inward.
He urged youths to learn how to be focussed, innovative and creative, saying that a number of opportunities abound in non-office environment like agriculture, ICT, among others for them to tap into.
Egbeyemi admonished the unemployed graduates to shun criminal tendencies and time-wasting ventures, so as to guarantee their future.
Also, Mr Abiodun Omoleye, the Chief of Staff to the Governor and also the Chairman, SDGs implementation in the state, urged the unemployed youths to stop setting limitations for themselves or busy themselves with things that constitute obstacles.
Commenting, Dr Margaret Fagboyo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Development Partnership/SDGs, said the event was organised to broaden the horizon of youths on how best they could to plan to become self-sufficiency.
Fagboyo said theme of 2021 International Youth Day: “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, was apt.
This, she said, was because it has the aim of highlighting that the success of youths would not be achieved without the readiness and meaningful participation of youths themselves.
Fagboyo commended the state government for championing the issue of youths empowerment and active engagement with vigour, vision and creativity.
According to her, the event was organised to teach youths on how to make informed decisions to build their future.
“We have the notion that the idea of the society is replenished by the creative and innovative ideas of the youth toward breaking barriers and extending the frontiers of knowledge,” she said.
In a keynote address, Mr Michael Awopetu, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, said that number of measures had already been taken in the last three years by this administration to help youths grow and fulfill their aspirations.
Awopetu enjoined them to make use of the opportunities provided by the state government to be self-reliant. (NAN)
