The Save Ekiti Coalition (SEC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State of preparing for war in the June 21, 2014 governorship election, saying; “all efforts must be made to prevent Ekiti State from being turned to a war zone by the APC government.”
The group, which described Governor Kayode Fayemi’s media attack on Vice President Namadi Sambo as hypocritical and deceitful, added that; “it was the height of deceit for anyone to say that Ekiti State under Fayemi and his APC is at peace.”
In a release issued on Monday by its Convener, Mr Lere Olayinka, the SEC said it was self-serving that the same Fayemi, who saw nothing wrong when former Governor Adeniyi Adebayo threatened war during the flag-off of Governor Fayemi’s second term campaign by saying that “if anyone toys with me, I will fight such a person,” was now making noise over Vice President Namadi Sambo’s reported statement.
SEC said; “From all indications, Fayemi and his men in the APC are preparing for war, and not an election. There preparedness for war was demonstrated on Monday, April 7, 2014 when in the full glare of the governor and members of his government, APC thugs fired several gunshots at the campaign office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Ayodele Fayose.
“The Vice President has assured that the principle of one man one vote, and transparent election would be observed in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, but can this be said of
“Can any sane mind agree with Fayemi’s claim that Ekiti State where six people have been murdered by APC thugs with murder charges hanging on top members of the party, including the State Chairman, Mr Jide Awe?
is peaceful?
“Adeleye Awolumate, Kehinde Fajuyi, Michael Ipinlaye, Ayo Murphy Jeje, Mrs Juliana Adewumi and Foluso Ogundare were all murdered in cold blood and Fayemi is saying Ekiti is peaceful?
“Is it until all of us in Ekiti are killed by rampaging APC thugs that Fayemi will admit that his government has dragged Ekiti State to a near state of war?
“It is therefore our plea to the Federal Government that adequate security should be provided in Ekiti State before, during and after the election.”
