The Idiroko Unit Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says 52 of its officers and men have been deployed to Iponkia-Atan axis on Idiroko Road to ensure accident-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Mr Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, the Idiroko Unit Commander of the FRSC, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota, Ogun.
NAN reports that the Federal Government has declared July 20 and July 21 as public holidays to enable Muslim faithful to celebrate the festival nationwide.
Olaluwoye said the special patrol, which commences from Friday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 26, would unravel gridlocks, check excesses of motorists and ensure sanity around Iponkia-Atan and its environs.
The unit commander urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC officials and other sister agencies in order to ensure the safety of lives and property during the celebration.
“We are appealing to motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and shun reckless driving to avoid mishaps on the road.
“In addition, they (motorists) should limit their speed because this has been a major factor contributing to road crashes in the country,’’ he said.
Olaluwoye admonished them against drunk driving and wrongful overtaking that could lead to unnecessary death.
He advised people travelling during the period to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition.
Olaluwoye also warned motorists to refrain from driving against traffic and any other nefarious acts that could endanger the lives of other road users. (NAN)
