Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that Egypt is playing a positive role to de-escalate the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Sisi made his remarks during an inspection of the Third Field Army’s Fourth Armoured Division in Suez province on the 50th anniversary of the October War victory, according to local media.
Egypt has taken an active role in aid access for Gazans through the Rafah border crossing, the only crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, Sisi said.
He added that Egypt is in the process of brokering a cease-fire in a way that can help address the lack of electricity and many other services in the besieged coastal enclave.
He reiterated the importance of the two-state solution and settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict via diplomatic means, which he put forward at the Cairo Summit for Peace earlier at the weekend.
He affirmed Egypt has considerable military capabilities, noting that “the power must be only for self-defense, and should be reasonably, wisely and maturely used”.
During the tour, the Egyptian president inspected scores of warplanes and tanks, the report said. (Xinhua/NAN). READ ALSO:
