A group, which styles itself as ConscienceDotCom, has expressed surprise at the capacity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to distort facts and realities in a bid to deceive the people to vote for its governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki, in Saturday’s election in Edo State.
The group, in a statement by its Secretary, Prince Henry Orlu, described as despicable the attempt in a syndicated media report to portray Obaseki as the winner of the Edo Governorship Election Debate jointly organised by CHANNELS Television and Enough is Enough in Nigeria Group.
According to ConscienceDotCom, “It is amazing the speed with which the APC propaganda machinery swung into action to appropriate a laurel that its candidate did not win. The attempt to hoodwink those who did not watch the debate into believing that Obaseki was brilliant in his outing is despicable.
“We owe it a duty to our conscience to let the world know that the organisers of the debate did not rate the performance of the participants as they left that to the people, particularly the Edo electorate to decide, and we believe that Edo electorate who watched the debate must have come to terms with certain realities and facts.
“However, from what we observed from the debate which was telecast live on CHANNELS Television, it was clear that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was the best composed, most confident, articulate and brilliant in his presentations and answers to questions. He never fidgeted. He was sharply-focused on the issues, leaving our group with the impression of someone who is on top of the socio-economic and political situations in Edo State.
“We believe that the ultimate decision on who to vote for rests with the Edo electorate. But we have made this intervention to draw attention of all and sundry to APC’s shenanigans, irredeemable lying attitude and unconscionable propaganda, which underpinned the media report in THE NATION newspaper and some on-line portals in which Obaseki was reported to have come tops in the debate; whereas, our group saw in Obaseki during the entire debate a clumsy persona who is not sure of himself.”
