The House of Representatives Member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah has awarded 200 students and business minded persons with grant worth fifty million naira (N50 million).
Addressing the beneficiaries at the Women Development Centre (WDC), Abakaliki, Comrade Ogah said the award was meant to assist the benefitting students pay their school fees and to encourage persons who will venture into various businesses.
However, the Lawmaker did not only focus on his Constituency but also awarded students from Afikpo and Ohaozara Local Government Areas of the state.
He said; “today, I have mapped out 50 million naira from the Constituency allowance to award scholarships to students and to others who want to invest in any business from Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency.
“You are privileged to benefit, we have been doing it over the years but today, it’s all about you.”
A former member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and an Entrepreneur, Hon Peter Ede, who was commissioned to execute the project, commended the Lawmaker and enjoined the students to take advantage of the opportunity.
“I commend Honourable Ogah for the initiative; we have been collaborating on a number of projects and I think that this one is one of the best we have done so far. If he can do this every year, it will be a beautiful thing and maybe, other Honourable Members will copy it as well.
“Don’t go and start buying phones with it or use it for frivolous purposes; use it for your education.” Hon Ede added.
Some of the beneficiaries including Ikechukwu Nwigbo from Ikwo, Iteshi Lucy from Ezza South, Favour Ezeali from Afikpo and Chibuzor Ngene from Ohaozara, expressed gratitude over the scholarship and promised to make judicious use of the money.
Meanwhile, students from various universities, including six (6) from foreign Universities benefited from the scholarship grant.
