Ebonyi donated N18 million to families affected by the collapse of a building at Eke-Aja Market in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
Dr Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Dr Kelechi Igwe, stated in Abakaliki on Tuesday that families of those who lost their lives received N3 million each.
“Those who sustained injuries received N2 million each,’’ he stated.
He quoted the deputy governor who represented Gov. David Umahi at the occasion as saying that government empathised with victims
Three persons are still receiving treatment at a hospital in Abakaliki, the deputy governor said.
“It is our prayer that it will not happen again in any part of the state.
“Once in a while we find ourselves in an inexplicable circumstance but we should regard it as an act of God, which no man can control,’’ Igwe said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the building collapsed on May 20.
Igwe encouraged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the monies to cushion the effects of the unfortunate incident. (NAN)
