The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has expressed grief over the sudden death of media mogul and Chairman of DAAR Communications PLC owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, describing it as a personal loss to the NUJ FCT Council and journalism in general.
In a statement released in Abuja, jointly signed by Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche and Ochiaka Ugwu, Chairman and Secretary of Council respectively, they noted that the council received the news of the death of the late statesman, politician, philanthropist and media personality with shock and disbelief.
According to the statement, “Dopkesi before his demise was always in the vanguard of defending good causes, upholding fairness, promoting human rights and democracy with his media. “He demonstrated focus on objectivity and balanced reportage by always giving all parties opportunity to present their views irrespective of gender, religion, political and tribal affiliations.
“He was a good friend of the NUJ Council as he encouraged DAAR staffers to unionize and identify with the council.”
“The council consoles the family and the DAAR Group over the tragic passing, and urges them to take consolation in his pioneering revolution of private broadcasting in the country.”
