By Paul Efiong To achieve functional, efficient and effective socio-economic relations, the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria wants the incoming minister of science and technology to visit Israel.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja during an event organized by a Non-Governmental Organization(NGO) known as the Independent Research-Evaluation and Advocacy Group(IREAG) to mark the 2015 World Science Day, the Acting Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Ambassador, Benny Omer, expressed hope that the incoming minister of science and technology will visit his country to tap from their wealth of experience in tackling food security through mechanized farming.
Ambassador Omer who also presented a key note address at the event, noted with happiness how his country has continued to impact positively on citizenry irrespective of their social, economic and education levels.
According to him “Israel now employed almost 40,000 in electronics of whom one third are university graduates and 60 percent are highly qualified engineers and technicians’ adding that presently the output per employee in Israel has grown from $46,000 in 1984 to approximately $150.000 in the mid-1990s’.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the NGO,(IRAEG) Mr.Bonny Alams explained that 10th November of every year is set aside by the United Nations through the United Nations Children Education Fund(UNCEF)to commemorate the importance of science and technology to humanity.
Mr. Alams further reiterated the importance of peace in nation’s development, adding that this year science and technology celebration focused on peace and development within the minds and heart of men and women.
Speaking further, REAG Coordinator used the opportunity of science and technology commemoration to remind President Mohammed Buhari’s government of the role of science and technology innovation (STI) emphasizing that such critical sector could assist the government and its agencies in fighting to success, the ongoing war against graft and terrorism in the country.
The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Mohammed Bello Yerima, an associate professor of applied biology described the event as very timely calling on Nigerians economic and political leaders not to under estimate the important of science and technology in their quest to join leak of economically stabilized nations.
Dr, M.A. Umar who represented the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)’s Director General at the occasion, also appraised his establishment for its scientific achievements and innovations since inception.
