By Godwin Kingsley, Lafia As part of his activities marking Nigeria’s 15 years of uninterrupted democracy and three years in office, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has donated 29.4 million naira to 1470 physically challenged women in the state.
The governor, who made the donation at the city hall Lafia, said the women were drawn from the 147 wards in the state and each would be given 20 thousand naira to boost their small scale businesses.
According to Governor Al-makura, the gesture is part of his administration’s drive to ameliorate the sufferings of women and children in the state.
Governor Al-makura also seized the occasion to honour the Nasarawa Amazon Female Football team that emerge champion in the National women Football League with a whopping sum of 34 million naira as sign-off fee.
Al-makura also made an increment in their salaries for their outstanding performance.
Earlier in his early morning broadcast, Governor Al-makura recounted his achievements in the past three years saying his government has evolved policies and programmes that has direct bearing on the lives
of the common man.
He recounted the projects to include the construction of asphalt and feeder roads in the state capital and other metropolitan cities of the state.
He added that his government has also been able to embark on rural electrification, provision of health facilities, provision of portable drinking water, quality education and youth empowerment.
The governor, however, urged the people of the state to continue to live in peace as no meaningful development could be achieved in the atmosphere of rancour and skirmishes.
