Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has visited Team Nigeria at the Olympic Games Village in Rio.
Dalung charged the athletes to be of good behavior and shun acts capable of disgracing the country.
He urged them to work hard towards achieving their set goals at the games, promising that their needs which include camp allowances will be duly paid before the end of the games.
“I charge you on behalf of our President Muhammadu Buhari to be good ambassadors of our great country Nigeria and desist from acts that will ridicule the nation. Obey camp rules and shun the temptation to use drugs for performance enhancement. It is better for you to come back with a good name than a stained medal. We urge you to embrace fair play, make friends and build bridges across the world with your good behavior.
Our President will be looking out for you and back home you can be rest assured of the home support from your numerous fans. I wish you well as you begin the quest for medals and honors at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. God bless Nigeria”. Dalung said.
The athletes were in high spirit following the National U-23 team’s 5-4 victory over Japan in their opening game.
They however pledged to work hard as their aiming to win medals in their various sports.
Nigeria’s assistant captain and flag bearer at the opening ceremony Funke Oshonaike will begin her quest for a medal in the women’s singles table tennis event today as well as Segun Toriola who is making a 7th appearance at the Olympics and team mate Aruna Quadri in the men’s singles.
