It is said that the bigger your dream backed with determination and hard work, the greater your achievements.
That is the fairytale lessons of a cycling prodigy, Osaretin Godwin of E Team Edo who risked her participation in the forthcoming National Youth Games to participate with elite athletes in the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta state.
With a depleted contingent following the exodus she suffered after the festival Edo state hosted last year, Edo female coach Angela Okoro decided to throw 15-year old Miss Godwin into the fray in the Delta 2022 festival and she surprisingly beat notable cyclists to emerge third in the women’s 200m sprints behind Ese Ukpeseraye of Delta state and Joke Durogbade of Oyo state.
Shortly after she was decorated with her bronze medal Sunday, Godwin said she was elated that she could scoop a National Sports Festival medal and gave God the glory.
“I want to thank God that I won a medal(bronze) in this festival and I am very happy”, she said, adding, “it is my prayer to keep doing well until I achieve greater laurels in cycling”.
Executive Director of Edo state sports commission, Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa hugged little Miss Godwin for her feat and promised that she will be monitored and groomed to become a national champion.
Meanwhile in the 80km road race for women decided Sunday, Team Delta’s Ese Ukpeseraye won the gold while Tawakalt Yekeen and Joke Durogbade, both of Oyo state picked the silver and bronze medals respectively.
