No fewer than 53 patrol vehicles and 30 motorcycles have been deployed by the Zamfara Police Command to carry out surveillance within Gusau metropolis as a strategy to combat new dimension of crimes in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu made this known at a news briefing in Gusau on Tuesday.
Shehu said the vehicles were distributed in team of five across the areas of Gusau metropolis for surveillance and quick response to any security breach.
The commissioner said: “In addition to the patrol vehicles, 30 motorcycles were provided for surveillance along major streets. Furthermore, movement of motorcycles are ban from 10p.m. to 6a.m.”
Shehu called on citizens to go about their lawful businesses, while advising them to desist from joining the planned national mass protest against government.
He, however, confirmed the abduction of 11 persons in five different attacks that occurred recently in Gusau, adding that the police had introduced measures to apprehend the culprits.
The commissioner assured more commitment of security agencies to end banditry and other crimes in the country, “believing that the current food scarcity in the country is part of the consequences of insecurity”. (NAN).
