Zamfara State Government has trained 100 medical doctors and other health workers as part of its preparations to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, made this known at a news conference in Gusau on Sunday.
Magarya is the Chairman of the state Task Force on Prevention and Control of Coronavirus.
According to him, the trained health workers comprise, 30 doctors, 30 nurses, 10 medical laboratory technicians, 10 health information officers, 10 hospital cleaners and 10 drivers.
“Apart from having competent manpower to handle the emergency situation, the state government also procured medical equipment such as testing kits and other medicament worth millions of naira.
He said the items would be distributed to all these designated centres in addition to logistics arrangements to curb the spread of the virus.
“As we are aware, the devastating effect of this dreaded disease to human existence, global economy and social inequalities is not only in Nigeria but all over the world.
“The consequential implications of this global health challenges that came to us from Far East China and spreads easily to all parts of the world including our dear country, Nigeria, informed the decision of our right thinking administration of Gov. Bello Matawalle to immediately set up this committee.
“I am using medium to announce that some good Samaritans in the state have started heeding to our calls.
“Worthy of mention is the former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Bashir Yuguda, who donated to this committee, the sum of N5 million, while the former governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmad Sani donated 30,000 crates of eggs and 100 bags of millet,” he said.
Magarya said the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, also donated 200 bags of millet to the committee.
“l wish to appeal to sons and daughters of the state, business partners and those that wish the state well to donate generously to the committee.
“My committee has finally chosen a primary health care centre in Damba area, Gusau, to be our isolation centre, while the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, will serve as transit camp for the disease,” he said.
